Epics have six main characteristics:
- The hero is outstanding. ...
- The setting is large. ...
- The action is made of deeds of great valour or requiring superhuman courage.
- Supernatural forces—gods, angels, demons—insert themselves in the action.
- It is written in a very special style.
- The poet tries to remain objective.
The story of Frankenstein definitely contains some if not all of these characteristics which lets it be classified as an epic story. The setting of Frankenstein is very large, it spans from the cold reaches North Pole to mainland Europe. Many many locations are in this novel, so Frankenstein meets this requirement of being an epic. Geneva, Switzerland is one of the locations in the novel. To clarify where it is, a Google map of its location is below.
The actions in the story are definitely ones of great valor. Building a being is an act that takes great valor. Not everyone can just go ahead and create life, this is something that sets Victor Frankenstein apart from normal people.
